How Does Unresolved Past Trauma Affect Us In The Present

We all have past trauma!  However, some human beings experience and carry more trauma than others.  Many of us grew up in dysfunctional households, whereby neglect and mistreatment was a regular experience.  Our parents were dealing with their own generational trauma, wounds and triggers and via their own learned behaviours unconsciously pass this down.

Going through past painful emotional and physical events (either via parents/siblings, at school or even situational curveballs) can impact a person severely in the present.  As children, we do not know how to process the pain felt.  Moreover, we learn to emotionally suppress or disassociate from this pain and pick up limiting belief systems and detrimental coping mechanisms as a result.

Stored and unresolved trauma causes an individual to experience disruptive physical and emotional reactions in the present (these are what are known as triggers) as their body and mind continue to defend against a threat that belongs in the past.

Your current wounds, triggers, belief systems, coping mechanisms, self esteem and picked up habits stem from your childhood and past experiences.  Via identifying and healing any unresolved past trauma PLUS working on shifting your negative self beliefs and increasing your self love can fundamentally CHANGE your life!
